THE STORY

6 Chapters. One Founder.

Calisto Pro exists because its founder hit the same wall every operator hits: the tools that promise to run your business were never designed by someone who actually runs one. This is the story of how a law career, seven home restorations, and a global property portfolio became a platform.

Roots & Professional Background

Born and raised in the United States, Ryan brings a strong foundation of hard work, precision, and a deep appreciation for place. Originally from West Virginia, he earned a business degree from West Liberty University and a law degree from West Virginia University before beginning his career at Thomson Reuters. His professional journey led him from Washington, D.C. to Pittsburgh, where he developed valuable expertise managing complex client relationships and navigating high-stakes environments.

A Passion for Restoration

In Pittsburgh, Ryan fell in love with the city's historic architecture and began restoring abandoned homes in his free time. He completed seven projects, including a full restoration of a late-1800s home that had been left vacant for over 35 years. That project became the turning point that sparked his passion for real estate and design.

Miami & Global Perspective

Tired of long winters, Ryan moved to Miami Beach to pursue real estate full-time. There, he found success in commercial real estate representing a Danish company expanding into the U.S. market. During this time, he also developed a passion for international travel, eventually visiting 24 countries. That global perspective continues to shape how Calisto thinks about design, localization, and client experience today.

The Birth of Calisto

In 2015, Ryan began managing vacation rentals in Miami, gaining firsthand experience in hospitality and property care. As his success in commercial real estate grew, he decided to begin investing in vacation homes himself. After exploring opportunities around the world, he chose the Dominican Republic. In 2017, he began acquiring properties there, but quickly became frustrated by the lack of reliable management options. In 2019, he moved to the island to manage his own portfolio, and what began as a personal solution soon evolved into a full-service property management company. In 2022, Calisto expanded to Spain. Today, the agency is trusted by homeowners across the globe.

The Wall Every Operator Hits

Ryan ran his portfolio on a stack: a PMS for the building, a channel manager for distribution, an accounting tool for the books, a marketing tool for direct bookings, and a spreadsheet to reconcile all of it. The stack worked at five properties. It broke at fifty. The OTAs charged 20% commission and held funds for 60 days. The PMS could not speak to the marketing tool. The accounting tool could not see property-level economics. Every new market meant a new payment processor, a new tax regime, a new language localization, a new compliance framework. The platforms that could handle one geography could not handle two. The platforms that could handle two charged $40k per month in enterprise contracts and still could not handle the localization. Ryan looked for a platform that could run a global, multi-currency, multi-language operation with BYOB infrastructure and operator-friendly pricing. He could not find one.

The Birth of Calisto Pro

So he built it. Calisto Pro started in 2023 as the platform the agency uses internally: a real test bed, not a hypothetical product. It was built around five architectural commitments that came from operating an actual business. First, position: the global standard, not a regional play. Second, global capability: every gateway, every language, every currency from day one. Third, BYOB control: your data, your processor, your hosting, your pace. Fourth, core reality: the agency runs its entire operation on this platform. Fifth, operator DNA: every product was the answer to a problem the team hit themselves. Today Calisto Pro serves operators in 24 countries: a coach with 5 clients, a hotel group with 200 properties, a marathon series across 3 continents, a food truck in Lagos, a wedding venue in Tuscany, a coworking space in Buenos Aires. Different verticals, different scales, different geographies. Same platform, same architectural commitments.
